Sun Conure, hatched 10 September 2010.
Here is our newest member Dumpling, a Sun Conure from the same parents as our model Tiy, and a single clutch baby.

We hand-raised her as a companion bird, along with Dozer the Cockatiel.

Green Cheek Conures, hatched 1 to 12 Aug 2010.

20 September 2010

The four girls are all Yellow-Sided. From left, Gina, Tiki (eye only), Ruby and Gidget.

Sapph, Ruby and Merlot fly now and freely come out of their nestbox during the day. All are pecking at small food such as Birdie Cake, millet spray, finch seed and crushed hard boiled egg.  They will only eat the rearing mix if it is offerd on the spoon for them to peck at, they are too grown-up to have it tipped down their mouths!

Individual personalities are very clear. Ruby, the go-get-it girl doesn't like you to catch her, although she will cuddle if you DO grab her. The boys, Sapph and Merlot (both brightly coloured Normals with tinges of yellow) are complete gentlemen and very loving. Gina is also a cuddle bunny.

Our co-parenting program is going well. I give the babies a morning and evening feed, and Bebe handles the rest.

The babies are getting the best of both worlds by becoming conditioned to humans, and learning how to be birds as well.

They are also becoming accustomed to other birds, because the Sun Conure comes down to give them a preen every day as well. He gets very vocal if he thinks it's time the babies came out of their nest.
19 August 2010

We start with baby 3 (Merlot) and Bebe gives him a little clean and a feed. Then comes baby 4 (Gina) who is 5 days younger then Merlot.

Bebe cleans his winglets and feet, then his head. Now he is ready for his feed. This baby looks like he will have pink feet - a cinnamon. Time will tell.

The babies are booked for DNA sexing on 30 August, when they will all have a decent set of feathers.

Baby No 1, Sapph, with his broken leg in a splint. Age 3 weeks, with green pin feathers now coming through.

15 August 2010.

Our babies are Sapph (2wks), Ruby (2wks), Merlot (12 days), Gina (1 wk), Baby 5(5 days) and Baby 6 (3 days).
See the baby-feeding video.

I am now feeding 4 of them twice a day. Benji is not bothered about them when they are out, but I get my hand bitten when I go into the box to fish out the babies.

They all took easily to spoon feeding. Personalities are appearing already. Sapph goes to sleep straight after the feed. Ruby searches for my fingers to cuddle up and Merlot is very sweet and well behaved. Sits waiting for the feed, then is very gentle and quiet while eating. Gina easily took the spoon at one week old.
